Knox Dance was established in 1992 by Katrina Cichowski. It has grown and developed over the years to include many styles of dance & theatre studies for all ages and standards, boasting a number of experienced, professional teachers.
Our facilities include three fully equipped studios with sprung floors, ballet barres and full length mirrors, as well as a student lounge.
Our school aims for a high standard of learning and development in a disciplined, yet encouraging atmosphere. We believe in consistency and regular classical ballet classes as the main training technique to encourage high level performance of all other supplementary dance styles and to help students reach their full potential. Students are encouraged to take ballet as their main subject and to add other extra styles as per preference. We aim to establish confidence, self-discipline, creativity, and a love of dance & theatre through regular exams, concert and competitions and other performance opportunities. We believe in using positive, constructive feedback as a tool to encourage better performance, and to develop thinking dancers.
We offer exams in the RAD “Royal Academy of Dance” & SFD “Southern Federation of Dance” syllabi, boasting a 100% pass rate in all exams since the school’s opening. We also offer solo and troupe competitions to selected students & an end of year concert.
Our teachers come with a wealth of experience; they are elite in their field & are all fully qualified. They are required to continually upgrade their skills, seeking further knowledge in all aspects of dance teaching and safety. They also participate regularly in workshops and master classes to keep up with current training strategies.
We recognise that children have different learning and physical abilities; therefore we endeavour to treat each student individually and gauge progressions accordingly.
Many past and present students have been involved in professional theatre productions such as Billy Elliot, Young Dancer’s theatre, Peter & the Wolf. Many students have been accepted to full time dance courses such as The Edge, Dance World & Dance Factory, or have gone on to gain their teaching certificates and now teach dance.
